Day 8

Merry Christmas from Ren and Kevin

No matter where I go in the world, I can hear the song “What a Wonderful World” and think of Grandpa singing it around the house. Any time I see a quiet piano or an empty stage, I hear Grandma encouraging me to take an inhale and let my voice be heard. You’ve always encouraged me to sing out, to try and find the note, and to make mistakes with abandon along the way, because if you’re too afraid to let others hear you sing, you’ll never know the joy of it. As far away as I am, I can still hear your voice and your piano from here. Keep the music playing; I will too.

With so much love, Lauren

One of my favorite things I see in both of you is the determination to use your hands and figure something out. From you, I’ve learned that anything can be taken apart, crafted, modified, and put back together. Projects can be started (sometimes even finished!), and things can be fixed when they’ve fallen apart. It just takes the effort of adding a little creativity, a little ingenuity, and a little tenacity. If I can take this quality with me in life – whether I apply it to a broken sink, a broken relationship, or any possible problem that I could face – I know I am a better person for it. Thank you for teaching me this. I love you both so much. May your Christmas be full of crafts that go successfully and a house that stays in one piece.

Sending hugs to both of you, Lauren
